Frequently Asked Questions: Identify the Risk
What happens at an Identify The Risk presentation?
Our presentation is lead by members from our Board of Directors, along with a POC staff member and two to three college interns. Parents will be informed about the inherent risk students will encounter while being away from home for the first time and new college students will learn how to identify high risk situations as they adjust to campus life. At the end of the presentation, we will pass out brochures filled with safety tips, information links, and hotline numbers while parents/college students fill out a post-program survey. We encourage participants to come up and ask us questions at the end.
What topics are covered in the presentation?
ITR defines risk factors and safety tactics for parent groups. Topics discussed include: On Campus Living, Off Campus Living, Personal Safety, Social Life, Hazing, The Influence of Drugs & Alcohol, Sexual Assault, Dating Violence, and Trust Your Instincts. Intermixed into the content are numerous personal accounts from our program leaders.
What is the length of the presentation?
The presentation lasts approximately 50 minutes. It can be reformatted for shorter sessions; however, some topics may be lost. The more time allotted, the more we can share and ensure better interaction with participants. After the formal presentation, depending on time, we will open the floor for questions. We also ask that students/parents complete a presentation survey to give us feedback to help us improve our program in the future.
What is a Prezi?
The Identify The Risk presentation is in Prezi format. Prezi serves as a virtual whiteboard and helps people see, understand, and better remember ideas. This format aims to foster discussion and open dialogue among presenters and students/parents. Participants will “walk-through” a virtual college campus while discussing the content of our presentation.
What is the cost of an Identify The Risk presentation?
There is a minimum donation fee of $175 per presentation. This fee will help defer the cost of the presentation, which includes: presenters, materials, and transportation. Discounts are provided on registration of multiple presentations. In addition, special considerations to waive presentation fees may be granted on the basis of financial need.
What equipment is needed?
We utilize a laptop, projector, projection screen, and microphone for each presentation. If you are unable to provide any of the equipment, we are able to bring our own; we just ask that you clearly communicate that with us.
What will we distribute at an Identify The Risk presentation?
PEACE OUTside Campus will distribute brochures filled with safety tips, information links, and hotline numbers. It is our goal to provide all students and parents with the information and tools they need to protect themselves. We will also bring wristbands, lanyards, and other giveaways.
